Body Force Model Implementation of Transonic Rotor for Fan/Airframe Simulations

Three-dimensional throughflow models represent a turbomachinery cascade via force distribution without the need for detailed geometric modelling in numerical solution, saving consistent computational resources. In this paper, we present application of body method on an axial transonic fan implemented into in-house tool axisymmetric simulations. By systematic comparison local and integral quantities with validated capabilities limitations model are discussed different operating regimes. The implementation is first at peak efficiency calibration point, providing good duplication blade flow variables radial profiles. design total pressure matched 0.6% absolute difference slightly higher slope characteristic towards stall. isentropic curve penalised after choking mass rate calibration, presenting close to 2%, although off-design trend. general, provides satisfactory representation field outflow spanwise distributions, locally larger discrepancies near endwalls. Finally, applied simulate outlet guide vanes installed isolated turbofan nacelle. onset intake stall high angle attack compared between boundary conditions-based approaches, highlighting importance adopting fully coupled solution methods study fan/airframe interaction problems.
